The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has said it is developing a compendium of Non-Oil products in the 774 Local Government in it’s bid to attract investors, encourage exporters and generate more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the sector.
Executive Director of NEPC, Dr. Ezra Yakusak, stated, on Saturday, in Abuja during a Hiking Export for Survival Campaign.
Dr. Yakusak noted that the idea stem from its Export 774 initiative, developed to shoring up interest in Non-oil export to sustain a continuous upward trajectory in Non-oil export and generate revenue.
He said, “In terms of FDI, we are compiling the export potentials of the 774 Local Government with our “Export774″ initiative. By the time the compendium is out, it’ll be a document that is readily available for investors and exporters alike. If you want any product from the 774 local governments, you’ll know exactly where to go”.
Speaking on the success of the Export for survival campaign, the Executive Director said the agency is witnessing more interest in Non-oil export even as more products are added to the initial ones.
“So far so good, this campaign has been very successful in that the Non-oil revenue has increased over the last two years we started this “Export4Survival campaign”. Interestingly, we are also seeing more products coming into the Non-oil export basket like sorghum, orange peels and other”.
NEPC had since the start of the campaign increased awareness of Nigerians on the urgent need to focus more on Non-oil export especially in the face of dwindling contribution of the oil sector the the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
Dr. Ezra Yakusak admonished other line agencies to support NEPC in this laudable initiative targeting export for survival of the nation.
