…As Cleric Urges Christians To Prepare For Eternity

A veteran journalist, Chief Walter Ukaegbu, has been laid to rest at the weekend in his home town in Amokwe Item, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

Ukaegbu, aged 67, died on August 29th, 2024 in Abuja, after a protracted illness.

Ukaegbu, who worked for The Sun Publishing Limited before his demise, covered business beats for several years, including the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the agencies under the supervision of the Ministry.

In his sermon at the Wesley Methodist Church, Amaokwe Circuit, Rt. Reverend Udo Nmeregini, reminded Christians about the inevitability of death to all mortals.

Nmeregini, therefore, admonished Christians to live in righteousness and prepare for eternity.

Taking his sermon from John 14:1–6, the cleric, underscored the need for Christians to accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour, as “He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

Nmeregini called on Ukaegbu’s family members, relations, associates and colleagues to take solace in the fact that he lived a transparent, honest and truthful life.

In a letter of condolence, issued on behalf of The Sun Publishing Limited, Jessica Oje-Humphrey, Human Resources Manager, said late Ukaegbu was one of those who contributed to the growth of the newspaper.

According to Oje-Humphrey, “In the discharge of his duties as a journalist, Ukaegbu was diligent and professional.

“It is worth mentioning that Chief Ukaegbu started as a maritime reporter and rose to become an authority in the sector, shaping opinions and influencing policies with his incisive offerings. He equally made a mark as a newspaper production guru.”

In her letter of condolence, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, expressed deep shock on the demise of Ukaegbu, describing it as “painful and devastating.”

Orelope-Adefulire, who condoled with Ukaegbu’s wife, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnamchi-Ukaegbu, prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and give the entire family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Late Walter Ukaegbu is survived by Dr. (Mrs) Ifeyinwa Ukaegbu (Wife), Jesse Chidubem Ukaegbu (Son); Favour Amarachukwu Ukaegbu (Daughter); and a host of other relations.
