The house of Representatives wants men of the special anti robbery squad unit of the Nigeria police to undergo periodic mental stability checkup so as to curb cases of accidental discharge and illegal detention of citizens.
The house arrived at the decision in an amendment on a motion on the need to re-assess and Re-evaluate the tactical squads of the Nigeria police.
The motion as moved by Representative Adewunmi Onanuga express concern over the alleged brutality, overbearing intimidation, recklessness and lack of professionalism on the part of the tactical Squads, particularly the anti robbery squad otherwise known as SARS and the zonal intervention squad, ZIS which it says recently resulted in the death of a young footballer Tiyaminu Kazeem and many others across the country
Contributing to the motion representative Mohammed Shebu Koko said the investigation should be centred on the ugly incident that led to the death of the youngman.
While amending the prayers representative Taiwo Onuga said there is need for periodic check of mental stability of men of the Nigeria police force.
The house observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased .
