The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says no barred SIMs will remain blocked until they are linked with the National Identification Numbers (NIN) of the SIM holders.
The clarification came on the heels of misinformation and disinformation being circulated on social media through a viral web link (https://bit.ly/NCC-Sim-Unbar-Gov-Ng) aimed at misleading the general public about the SIM cards that are barred from making calls, due to non-linkage with NIN at the set deadline.
The NCC also called on subscribers to disregard any message asking them to click on a link and follow certain instructions to unbar blocked SIM cards, saying it is a calculated attempt by fraudsters to mislead see unsuspecting members of the public.
The Commission which is the regulator has informed subscribers on procedures to get their SIMs active again.
“First, for subscribers that have not registered for their NIN, what to do is to get their SIM registered at accredited centres across the country and then link the NIN with their SIM cards through channels provided by their service providers.
“Secondly, for subscribers with registered NINs, what to do is to simply go and link the NIN with their SIMs through channels provided by their service providers”, the statement said.
The statement also urged the public treat advertisement of any ongoing recruitment in the Commission as a scam.
