The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill for an act to enact the Nigerian local content Act to provide for the Development, Regulation and enforcement of Nigerian Content in all sectors of the econony except the oil and gas sector
The House also moved in favour of a motion to diversify Nigeria’s Economy to ensure food security in the post Covid 19 Pandemoc
Sponsor of the bill, Representative Idagbo in his lead debate said the bill seeks to build Capacity of local content and job creation in the country
Diversifying the country’s economy to ensure food security is the bone of contention in a related motion to the Covid 19 pandemic.
Representative Chidozie Nwankwo from Anambra State is concerned that the crash in oil price in the international market is faced with the reality of poor economic planning.
He wants president Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the agriculture sector
In another development, The green chamber has mandated its committees on healthcare services, health Institutions and aids among others to invite the health ministry, National primary health care development agency, the NCDC to come brief the committees on possible ways of getting the needed legislative support to fast track the production of vaccines in Nigeria and report back in 4 weeks.
Mover of the motion, Representative Chike Okafor is of the opinion that local vaccine production will not only save Nigeria billions of naira from vaccine importation but will go a long way in guaranteeing availability of vaccines during immunization
The motion was referred to the relevant committees for further legislative action.
