In a bid to intensify effort in tackling insecurity the house of representatives passed for second reading a bill for an act to establish federal roads and highways forest guard.
Sponsor of the bill representative Usamn Danjuma- Shiddi said the bill seeks detect and prevent banditry amongst other crimes
Kidnapping, banditry amongst others are some of the major security challenges facing the country.
It has been established on many occasions that these criminals hide in forests across the country.
In recent times some state government have had to dialogue with bandits all in a bid to stem insecurity in the country.
To this the house of representatives is worried that other measures need to be taken to stem the tide
In his representation sponsor of the bill Danjuma-Shiddi said the bill if passed into law will ensure guards man the various forests 100 metres adjacent to all federal roads, high ways and railways in the country.
He underscore the importance of the bill in terms of job creation.
some lawmakers argued against the bill saying it will be duplication of duty with other security agents in the country.
However the deputy speaker Idris Ahmed Wase who presided over plenary said the bill is timely and should not be discarded
The bill was referred to the relevant committee for further legislative action
