Hired “thugs” have disrupted the peaceful protest embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kaduna State, to press home their demands after the sack of several civil servants.
While the protest was ongoing, some suspected thugs, wielding macheted and clubs drove in two vehicles and KEKE NAPEP and started hauling stones fiercely at the protesters.
Some of the attackers covered their faces wielded knives and sticks.
“They came in a car and started hauling stones at the workers protesting. People started running but the workers were able to chase them away,” an eye witness told Daily Trust.
Journalists and some other persons around fled the area. It is not clear those who sent the thugs to disrupt the protest but the president of NLC Ayuba Wabba alleged that credible information linked the thugs to the El-Rufia led-government. During the protest, the striking workers blocked the main road, forcing motorists to divert to other routes.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufia said he has declared the NLC president and others wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure under miscellaneous offences Act.
