The former Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has handed over the leadership of the Ministry to the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana,mni.

Documents received by the Acting Minister included details of magashi’s stewardship, from office assumption to formal hand over notes at a brief ceremony witnessed by Management Staff, the Military and Civilian aides of the Minister.

In his remarks, General Magashi appreciated the support of the Permanent Secretary, the Directors, staff and ministerial aides for his eventful, peaceful and successful four-year tenure of office.

The outgone Minister appreciated the massive support of C-in-C, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the cooperation of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor and other Service Chiefs and their patriotic services in defending the nation’s territorial integrity under his supervision.

The Minister further urged the Directors and staff of the ministry to cooperate with the Permanent Secretary who will oversee the Ministry till a new Minister is appointed, assuring them of his moral support at all times needed.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Kana, congratulated the Minister for successfully concluding his tour of duty and wished him God’s protection at all times.

He thanked the Hon. Minister for repositioning the Ministry and leaving it better than the way he met it four years ago.

Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) assumed office in the Ministry of Defence on the 21st of August 2019 being the 24th Chief Executive at the inception of the second term of the Buhari’s administration.
