The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC)Dr. Iyela Ajayi, has reconstituted and inducted the NSSEC Anti-corruption and transparent unit ACTU, as he charges the members to cultivate trust, integrity, diligence and commitment to work.
According to a statement made available to journalists by the Head Press & Public Relations Officer of NSSEC, Fatima Bappare,
the exercise is aimed at upholding transparency and accountability in NSSEC in all its endeavours so as to build an organization that stands as a beacon of integrity.
Dr. Iyela Ajayi explained that, the redeployment of the previous staff to the Federal Ministry of Education necessitated the need to reconstitute the unit in other to ensure continuous fight against corruption.
In his remarks, the HON. Chairman ICPC, Dr. Musa Aliyu, who was represented by the Ag. Director System Study and Review Department Mr. Olushegun Adigun, commended the Executive Secretary NSSEC for his initiative and support for the inauguration which he said, will empower the unit to deliver on its mandate of periodic sensitization of staff on corruption, examination of systems, processes and procedures that are prone to corruption and proffering solutions, developing and reviewing code of ethics for staff and ensuring compliance with same, monitoring budget implementation, coordinating the deployment of the ethics and integrity compliance scorecard and undertaking preliminary investigations into complaints and reports received, among others.
revealed that the NSSEC has the duty of not only being alive to its responsibility of repositioning Senior Secondary Education in the Country, but must also ensure that the staff and members are diligent, responsive and dedicated to their duties.
He then called on the management of the Commission to support ACTU by providing a conducive environment, and not to see ACTU as parallel authority, rather a complimenting unit in promoting transparency and accountability within the Commission.
The NSSEC ACTU Chairman, Mrs. Mary Favour Okwori in her speech, pledged to lead with integrity, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to the duty.
