Within the first half of this year, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory earned the sum of N849.1bn as Internally Generated Revenue.

The figure is contained in the IGR Report which was released on Monday night by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The IGR, according to the NBS was earned from five main sources.

They are Pay-As-You-Earn, Direct Assessment, Road Taxes, Other Taxes and revenue from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

A breakdown of the N849.12bn revenue showed that the sum of N398.25bn was earned by the states in the first quarter of this year, while the second quarter had N450.86bn.

It stated, “The 36 States and FCT Internally Generated Revenue amounted to N849,123,384,003.55 in H1 2021.

“In the first quarter of 2021, the internally generated revenue was N398,259,343,434.98 while in the second quarter it amounted to N450,864,040,568.57. This indicates a positive growth of 13.21 per cent.

The NBS report added that Lagos State has the highest Internally Generated Revenue with N267.23bn in H1 2021, followed by FCT with N69.07bn and Rivers state with N57.32bn.

On the other hand, it stated that Yobe state with N4.03bn recorded the least IGR.

Internally Generated Revenue by Zones in the first half of 2021 shows that the South-West zone recorded the highest revenue which amounted to N385.41bn, followed by the South-South zone with N156.17bn, while the North-East zone recorded the least internally generated revenue with N42.91bn.

Among the Internally Generated Revenue categories, the NBS Report stated that PAYE contributed the highest which amounted to N488.10bn, followed by revenue from MDAs which amounted to N173.55bn.

It added that the least category was Road Tax with a contribution of N16.75bn in the first half of 2021.(The Whistler)
