In a momentous ceremony held in Federal Ministry of Education (FME) witnessed the official handover of leadership from the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Head of Civil Service Designate Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, OON mni to her successor, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo. This transition marks a significant milestone in the Ministry’s journey towards Educational excellence and innovation.
In her heartfelt address, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack highlighted the importance of this administrative transition and expressed her unwavering confidence in Dr. Gwarzo’s capabilities. She lauded his extensive experience and dedication to public service and healthcare management, emphasizing his distinguished career.
Mrs. Walson-Jack encouraged Dr. Gwarzo to build upon the solid foundations laid by previous leaders and to foster collaboration among all stakeholders to enhance the Education system. She reassured the Ministry’s team of her full support and urged them to continue their collective efforts to achieve greater milestones under Dr. Gwarzo’s leadership.
Mrs. Walson-Jack extended her heartfelt gratitude to those who supported her during her tenure, including the Honourable Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman and the Honourable Minister of State, Hon. Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, appreciated their motivational and steadfast leadership. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Heads of Departments, Units, Agencies, Staff, and International Partners. As she transitions as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, she expressed deep appreciation for the collaboration and encouragement she received, which were instrumental in advancing the nation’s Education sector. Mrs. Walson-Jack concluded by thanking the Media and all supporters.
Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the new Permanent Secretary Education, expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Walson-Jack, acknowledging her exceptional administrative and technical skills, as well as her natural compassion and social responsibility. He recounted the personal support he received from her.
Dr. Gwarzo emphasized the importance of good working relationships, recognizing the roles of Directors and Staff in the Ministry. Gwarzo highlighted the critical role of Directors in the Civil Service, stating that a good Director ensures the success of the Permanent Secretary and, by extension, the Ministry. He then expressed his commitment to working closely with the Directors and their teams, acknowledging the significant challenges ahead.
He promised to build upon the achievements of the Head of Service Designate and to prioritize her initiatives. Dr. Gwarzo concluded by emphasizing the importance of Education as the largest Ministry in Africa, seeking the support of all members of Staff to face the challenges ahead and ensure the Ministry’s continued success.
Mr. Zubairu Abdullahi, Director Special Duties, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Gwarzo and other distinguished Guests. He expressed mixed emotions about the elevation of Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, acknowledging the mixed feeling of her promotion and departure. Mr. Abdullahi highlighted Dr. Gwarzo’s impressive track record and successful leadership in various roles, welcoming attendees to witness this historic handover and expressing gratitude to all present.
Mr. Omotayo Adeyemi, Director of Human Resources Management, praised Mrs. Walson-Jack for her significant leadership style that has brought improvements in the Ministry including the Staff Clinic and Canteen which have fostered team confidence and enhanced efficiency. He concluded by expressing his best wishes for her future success. Similarly, Mr. Steven Simon, Director of Human Resource Management in the Ministry of Police Affairs, wished Dr. Gwarzo wisdom and strength in his new role, while appreciating Mrs. Walson-Jack’s unique character and leadership abilities.
